Wanted to catch a good one hour of the match on TV before leaving for office. By 8:30, I finished my morning chores and placed myself comfortably on a couch.

The toss was won and naturally I was expecrting a run-feast from Sehwag & Co as the pitch was hailed as a 'cracking' one by Ravi shastri. Atleast I couldn't expect anything less, going by the terrific form Indian batsmen were in!

After about an hr, I found myself stepping out of my home disappointed, hoping another miracle from Laxman and Dravid. But the miracle came from a player who is hailed as the No.1 Duck-breeder in international cricket and then another one who got into the playing eleven by virtue of somebody's injured shoulder.

But they fell short of creating a real miracle, still managing to save India from the blushes of losing a match so tamely.

So, the great Indian cricket blockbuster continues...

The hot search

I read that Janet Jackson exposing her breast in the MTV show has rewritten all records in the history of internet search also! Nowadays, I try my best to avoid doing so. So, in such situations, I try to give that balance food to the needy.

Today morning, I had some of the last night's food left. By evening it would cross its expiry date, and so I decided to carry it with me while going to office so that I can give it to a beggar.

I didn't want to carry it all the way to my office and so I started searching for the 'client' as soon as I stepped out of my house. But, alas! A street, where every second person you would bump into turns out to to be a beggar, looked shockingly abandoned!

I was getting late and so turning very very impatient. As these cricket commentators put it, my timing or rather my 'time' was just not right. My despartation started getting worse and I started enquiring to the footpath vendors about those regular beggars functioning from there. They got really bewildered and started doubting my sanity.

Then an uncle-figure approached me and shot : "Son, you seems to be begging for beggars!"

Welcome 2004

How did you spend your January 1? My friend says whatever u 've done
on the New Year day, you would be doing it throughout the year!

If that is gonna be true, then the year will be bringing mixed
results for me, i guess:-) I might lose some money this year as I
chose the New Year day to give some advance money to my 'would-be'
landlord! Then I might be watching lotsa movies this year as I saw
two on that single day:-)

The second one I saw was something special. It was the private
screening of the directorial debut of my friend who is a Pune Film
Institute churn-out. The film is made in English and is starring Atul
Kulkarni and Neha Dubey (The Monsoon Wedding fame). I don't want to
reveal more details of the film here, as my friend is yet to expose
it to the media.

And folks, I watched the movie sitting next to the hero Atul
Kulkarni:-) The experience of watching a movie sitting next to its
hero was overwhelming. He has given a commendable performance and I
hope the movie would get a market and the work would get appreciated
in the coming days.

Yeah, I reached back home late night around 1 am and with a seething
headache. So I ended by New Year day restlessly, waiting for some
sleep to engulf me. Ye headaches bhi kya headache hai yar?

Munnabhai MBBS, the healing touch!

I had this rare fortune of watching a wholesome Bollywood entertainer
in the form of "Munnabhai MBBS" this week. I found the movie
profusely hillarious, packed with endearing performances and it made
some sense too. It was after a long time, after Heerapheri I would
say, I got to watch a movie that was quite rib tickling.

The story line might sound bit 'impossible', but the makers of the
movie have succeeded in making it 'believable' by coming up with real
life situations and weaving an engaging thread throughout. Making a
pass at the growing corruption taking place in MBBS-admissions and
the treatment given to the patients in hospitals, Munnabhai MBBS
thrive on a near-perfect narration and engaging performance from the
lead stars. And got enchanted by the laughter-mantra, we tend to
suppress the tendency to do reality-checks during the show!

Munnabhai MBBS might please the masses and the classes alike.
Though, externally, it would look like a treat for frontbenchers, the
sleek manner it is made is definitely appealing to the classes as
well. There is no single scene that would bore you. The budding
romance between Munnabhai and his love interest played by Gracy Singh
is told without much fanfare, but very sensitively. That comes as a
fresh breath in a film industry that needs its lead stars to scout in
the greener countrysides of Switzerland or Sweden to voice their
feelings.

On the performance level, Sanjay Dutt is outstanding in a role tailor-
made for his less probed persona as a light-hearted man. But the
surprise packet of the movie is Bomman Irani. I watched him first in
the movie "Let's Talk" and he was quite amazing in it. Then catching
the audience unawares in "Darna Mana Hai" and now giving Sanju Baba a
run for his money in a negative character with comic shades
in "Munnabhai", this theatre personality from Mumbai is definitely a
threat to Paresh Rawal in Bollywood's comedy realm.

The chemistry between the Dutts could have brought out more
effectively by creating some engaging scenes that live up to the
comic mood of the movie. Sunil Dutt is kind of wasted in Munnabhai
MBBS. Then, the hype was so much on the coming together of father and
son. Munnabhai MBBS is not devoid of loopholes, but in the end what
matters is the satisfaction of watching a better movie. And that
feeling clears all the negative thoughts away.

Happy X'mas

Dravid-nator!!!

When I laid my hands on today's newspaper, I knew that I was going to keep it forever.

The performance of Rahul Dravid in particular and the Indian team in general in the Adelaide test took the breath out of me.

On that consequential Tuesday, I was awaken from sleep by the alarm ring set at 6 am. I didnt want to miss the action. And I watched, in all the excitement and nervousness, India reaching out to that phenomenal feat. I had to attend an interview and left home when India needed 38 runs to win. The way VVS Laxman hit those three 4s reassured me that India would win.

As I was waiting for my train, I got an SMS from my friend breaking the news of Indian victory. So I am
helpless. Just like any other Malayali, I adore him a lot.

Of late, there are some disturbing thoughts:

These days, Lal looks tired. The make-up is unable to cover-up the
exhaustion in his face. But that was bound to happen once. No
complaints.

Secondly, I think the actor in Mohanlal is under serious threats.
Before going further, lets take a history class.

Generally, after becoming a superstar, an actor looks around for
meatier roles and recognition from the elite audience. Mohanlal was
not different and he was at his peak with his performance in
Vanaprastham.

But after Vanaprastham, his career graph witnessed a steep decline in
terms of the roles he received and the filmmakers he chose to work
with.

Those were the days of super-human characters and larger-than-life
heroes, with a 'twirled' moustache.

But Mohanlal couldn't be a Rajnikant as the Kerala audience ceased to
appreciate the same after some time. A spate of flops followed and
the parabolic action had begun.

Mohanlal, whose USP was those common-man roles close to normal life,
suddenly found him lost in Malluwood where he really felt the heat of
competition from new entrants like Dileep and Prithviraj.

Even Priyadarsan couldn't save Mohanlal as audience rejected the
rescue-action came in the form of 'Kilichundan Mampazham'.

As the old and trusted comrades stood helpless, a nervous Lal turned
towards new directors like Thulasidas and VM Vinu. That was a real
boon for these youngsters for whom getting Mohanlal to do title roles
in their movies was like a dream came true.

Remember, Lal wouldn't have even considered working with these second-
line directors if he had been still enjoying that top position. But
this is just my assumption.

Mr Brahmachari and Balettan scored in the box-office as the mallu
audience sat in excitement watching their dear Lalettan's much-
awaited retreat to those closer-to-life characters.

But is that enough? Where is that Mohanlal whose marvelous acting
histrionics won him a number of Bharat awards? The circle would be
complete only when Mohanlal get back to that cult position. Nowadays,
every time you switch on your TV, you can see people praising the
actor in him non-stop. But, to tell you the truth, that was
history.

Now we want the history to be repeated. Otherwise, Mohanlal will end
up as another MT Vasudevan Nair. I think MT hasn't written a novel
since a long time. You can correct me if I am wrong. That was a
wild, but painful comparison.

So, undoubtedly, Mohanlal is back and is ruling the Mallu box
office. But, if he is not calculating his moves carefully and going
for roles where he would get an opportunity to ACT, things are going
to backfire and

that would be

the end of Mohanlal, the actor.

Satyendra Dubey, The whistle-blower

Satyendra Dubey was a 31-year-old IIT Kanpur civil engineering graduate. He used to work with the National Highways Authority of India and was assigned to the prime minister's pet project, the Golden Quadrilateral, to connect the four corners of India.

While working with NHAI, Dubey noticed rampant corruption and poor implementation of work in his department. He reported the matter to the Prime Minister's Office by sending a letter, requesting anonymity. But, instead of keeping his name in confidence, authorities circulated his letter to all the relatd departments. That easily exposed Dubey to the evil eyes.

On November 27, 2003, Satyendra Dubey was murdered in Gaya, Bihar. And that has raised a hell lotta issues now.

Bihar Government has ordered a CBI probe into his gruesome killing.

For people having Dubey's conscience, this incident sends wrong signals. The ever-changing impressions Indian cricket team cast on their supporters' minds with their inconsistent rate of winning matches.

Just last week, after that humiliating defeat from the hands of Australia, most of us were screaming for our cricketing heroes' blood. Some suddenly had this revelation that Indians were just paper tigers. Some pledged that they would never ever support the team or watch a match even on TV. Some, like me, thought of writing a blasting piece to yahoo groups like Malayali Mafia.

Then we had this unusual or once-in-a-blue-moon performance from Indian team, in their last match against Kiwis, and suddenly the feelings have taken a U-turn. Now we all are fantasizing about Indian team taking revenge on Australia for the world cup defeat. If it happens, i would be one of the happiest fans of indian cricket.

But this happens often. All our sentiments get a depression-shade after a defeat, and we are forced to believe that our team is a gone case. Then, when we think we have all detached ourselves successfully from the temporal fortunes of Indian cricket, a big win by our team again lure us back to the risks of following their fortunes. And this cycle goes on.

So what's the best policy to avoid these tensions and tribulations involved in tracking the fortunes of Indian cricket team? On this morning of TVS cup final, I want to share my strategy with those who are interested.

It is very simple. Over the years, I have developed a tolerance level to the follies our team make or the victories our team register. Win or loss, just take it as two sides of the coin. When india loses, keep remind yourself that Indian cricket or even the whole world is not gonna end with this one defeat. When india wins, dont get carried away and hope this happens next time too.

Then, without loses, what is the excitement in cricket? You keep winning and chances are that gradually your supporters might get bored with you! To which job our cricket-columnists and game-pundits shift if we keep performing superbly? And just imagine, what would be the future of the hundred thousands of cricketers in our country if just these eleven men keep their positions intact forever?

So what's your wrong-un?

Check out "Karlo Duniya ka Maal apni mutthi mein" Dated November 6th, 2003 @ Tech-updates.

Ryzer 100 speaking...

I had been a member of this business network called Ryze since Jan this year. We re-lived our days - cooking, roaming, watching a cricket match together etc.. etc.!

That made me acknowledging the fact that living in a group has it's own highs when compared to living in isolation as I have been doing recently. But I have not thought of going back . Just decided that, once in a while I would have a deviation.

Adding flavour to the Diwali celebrations, we had this news of an Indian win from Gwalior. Sachin had a 100, but as A put it, after 90 he was clearly playing for his hundred. And having got little confidence in those colourful tablets supplied by doctors, I was following the prescriptions by Gautam, who taught me how to bypass doctors with our own medical experience.

But yesterday evening, I found myself carefully listening to my society doctor. He gave me some tablets and a colourful tonic. But what was really exciting was those sleeping pills he prescribed. For me, first time in my life! After taking one, I waited for that sudden sleep to embrace me, but in vain! Yesterday also, I had to turn my music player on to take the plunge.

But in the mornig, I slept an extra hour. Still an exciting experience, what say?

And then the drama began!

Just two minutes were left for my society bus to reach the building gate and I was unable to open my flat door to get out. In simple words: I was locked in!

I have heard of people losing keys and locking themselves out of their houses. But this..?

Blame it on the faulty lathe. I lookd out of my balcony helplessly like a prisoner just sentenced for lifetime rigorous imprisonment. Luckily a boy saw me and brought the watchman. But finally i had to break the lathe to get out of the house.

Now, to fix the door I am leaving office early. I reached office late because of the door and leaving office early, again thanks to the door

Keep chewing!

About a TV ad that appears these days. On 14th, I saw Mohanlal standing on top of the world.

When I landed in TVM, what pre-occupied my mind was getting the permission to cover the Mohanlal 25 event than the possibility of meeting Mohanlal.

I arranged a meeting with Suresh Kumar, man behind the Thiranottam Show, at the rehersal camp on 13th morning. It took a while to make him understand that I am from a news portal and not from any TV channel. (The TV-coverage rights had gone to Asianet.)

So finally I was 'in'!

So, with a relaxed mind..I looked around. I could see many big shots of Malluwood, mostly directors, sitting all around.

<img src="http://thumbs.webshots.com/s/thumb4/8/56/74/93885674fKtLIh_th.jpg"border="0" width="100" height="71" align="center">
With Priyadarsan and Co

And I never expected to see Mohanlal...
until he emerged from thin air in-front-of me!

In a simple outfit of shirt and mundu, Mohanlal was there sitting in the company of friends!

I stood bedazzled!

I am not going berserk here. I am very well composed while writing this account. But there is no other word I could describe my meet. I simply stood there bedazzled!

I found Lal twice cute and handsome in real. And he was carrying a certain aura...is that what you call 'charisma'?

<img src="http://thumbs.webshots.com/s/thumb4/9/1/85/93890185jLVjbU_th.jpg"border="0" width="100" height="65" align="center">
Why Me!

As in a dream I kept staring at him. Suddenly he got up and looked at my direction and SMILED!

I was stunned and bit embarassed too. He has caught me staring at him. And before I knew what happened...that radiant figure was near me.

I gave him a very strange smile…and mumbled something.

Slowly I regained my composure and introduced myself, shaking those big fare hands hysteriacally. He told me he knew rediff.com and liked Mumbai for it's vibrancy. Balettan, his Onam release, was turning out to be a huge hit.

I wanted to take a photo with Mohanlal, but who will take this for me? There were none around to whom I can make a request.

I told Lal that I wanted to take a photo. Then, accepting the reality that I wouldn't get a chance to pose with him, I was going to click Lal when he asked:

"You (ningal, thats the word he used) want to take the photo with me or just want a single photo of mine?"

That gave me the courage to let him know my intention! Taking the camera from me, he handed it over to Suresh Kumar and asked him to take the photo.

<img src="http://thumbs.webshots.com/s/thumb4/8/50/94/93885094spTvbF_th.jpg"border="0" width="100" height="56" align="center">
star-struck

And he posed with me. My magic moment was etched forever! It was my dream to meet Mohanlal whom I adore ever since I started watching movies. Though a chance to interview him slipped away unfortunately, I was glad that I got a chance to talk to him for some time, at least.

I had gone to native with the impression that Dileep has swallowed the star-value of Mohanlal. But, gladly, I was wrong. As an actor who has been surviving the madness of cinema since 25 years and at the same time successfully keeping the megastar title intact, Mohanlal's star-value speaks for itself.

<img src="http://thumbs.webshots.com/s/thumb4/8/54/67/93885467DtsyRe_th.jpg"border="0" width="100" height="64" align="center">
25 years at a stretch

And Dileep, he has been doing well since the last two years and I feel he doesnt deserve a comparison with Lal at this juncture. This is not a biased opinion and I really enjoy watching Dileep-movies these days. When I saw both Lal and Dileep together in real, I felt Dileep is just a kid in front of Mohanlal!

More than Mohanlal's charisma or stardom, what really struck me during my meeting was his humble nature and sweet personality. He was obliging each every one came in his way, signing away autographs and mingling with all around.

His ever-pleasant face carried this surd question - "why me?" He never seemed putting an effort to act like a megastar. But he was there, stealing hearts...so effortlessly. Just like the way he act.

<img src="http://thumbs.webshots.com/s/thumb4/8/52/93/93885293YJSWqq_th.jpg"border="0" width="100" height="67" align="center">
Mukesh & Manoj K Jayan

I met most of the glittering stars of Malluwood there in Trivandrum. Another star who touched my heart with that generosity and friendliness inseparable from real and reel lives was Mukesh. When I conveyed him my desire to take a snap with him, he told me with that touch of humour we often see in him onscreen, and in that Kollam lingo:

"edutho edutho ... permission onnum vanganda, ninnang eduthonam." (Take yaar..u don need a permission and all....bindaaz...pose and take)

<img src="http://thumbs.webshots.com/s/thumb4/8/94/1/93889401yFhEww_th.jpg"border="0" width="100" height="56" align="center">
Lakshmi of Music Moments

So that was a vacation I would cherish forever.

Someone can't stop grinning, you know?

Journey joy!

Leaving for kerala tomorrow. mixed feelings! being away from this city has its on drawbacks i guess. but getting to meet my folks, something greater without a doubt!

surfing is gonna be bit tough when i am there. last time i experienced that. hope things would have changed for better now.

I guess i have been making great hype abt my trip. My last post dealt with a bomb blast that occured in a bus here in Mumbai. And quite ironically, now I am updating my blog at a time when reports of a series of bomb blasts that rocked South Mumbai have been pouring in. Blast ka meter chaaloo...:(

It is sad man! It is madness. I dont know what to say more on this. Pardon me if I have turned your spirits off by mentioning this subject.

There are better things to tell. I am planning a Kerala trip next month and on the menu are Onam, a cousin's wedding and little bit of precious work too - coverage of Mohanlal's "25 years in films" event to be held in Trivandrum and possibly a face-to-face with my idol. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

On the time-pass front, there is this yahoo group I have created for Keralites across the world: Malayali Mafia

Living Dangerously

Looks like terrorists have chosen Ghatkopar a permanent base to have blasts often. When I delay seeing such movies, the curiosity fades away.

Been there done that, when Bhoot was released and Ramu didn't disappoint me. I went on to watch Bhoot for a second time too.

And yesterday, I was there among the first day audiences of the much-awaited "Darna Mana Hai", clutching my hands in anxiety regarding what is in store for me this time.

The movie started off quite decently, showing justice to the Verma camp creations. Then one-by-one, the so-told six stories started unfolding. Though these stories were told in a novel manner, I was curious to know how these six stories are going to get related to each other with a joint climax. At least, the promos promised that.

But, sorry to tell, the climax was disappointing and there was no such so-told related climax either. When we were expecting a climax, the movie ended with a forced climax!

I am told, Ramu is planning a sequel to this movie. If it is true, it is good. And who knows if it is just a gossip or promotional gimmick? I felt so because, when news about such a cold climax spreads, naturally that would trigger a box office crash. And they might just want to avert such a calamity by injecting more hopes on people!

*I wrote what I felt. Actually I hate movie reviews. But the mere disappointment made me write this piece.

The Run Away Bag

Life is going on as usual. No big time changes. The zigzag continues! A very realistic comment about my blog came from one of my best friends during these days, the adjective he used was ‘ganda’! I think he was right on target.

I had been ignoring my blog all these days because of the sheer lack of inspiration or drive to write. Time is also a factor and I need good time to come up with a write up. Travelling has been consuming a good part of my days as I am staying at my uncle’s place that is bit far away from my office. The good thing happened out of this mere waste of 3 hours per day is that, I have cultivated the habit of reading newspaper in the train these days. And I think time flies when you are so engrossed in that activity.

Bought a TV to watch World Cup and during tense match situations, I simply switch channels and start watching some time-pass movies. Especially on occasions like the Indian scoreboard reads 25/3 against Keniya! But came back to enjoy the timely century knock by Ganguly. Needless to say, enjoyed Sachin’s classic 98 against Pakistan too. But still, feels this world cup is lacking that punch and is in agreement with Barry Richard’s views.

Another mentionable incident occurred with me these days, is a miraculous retrieval of my bag. I was trying to get into a local train from Dadar with and I lost my bag in the attempt, in the heavy rush. Thinking that it might have fallen back in the platform, I alighted back. But the bag was nowhere to be seen! Then I had a feeling that it might have got wedged in the train itself. The bag was bit heavy with some funny things like a beverage bottle, some casual dress, a pickle bottle, a tiffin-box etc., and some not so funny things like my ATM card, train pass, house keys, telephone diary and some invaluable things. The thought of losing so many things at one go was really painful and I stood there cursing my habit of keeping such things together in the bag.

Then I decided to take bygones as bygones and caught the next train to Mulund. At Mulund station, still, I decided to check my luck, with 0% hope, and headed straight to the stationmaster’s cabin. There I told the clerk what happened and requested him to check with the Kalyan station if they had received any unclaimed bag. Unbelievably, a miracle started unfolding one by one! The person on the other end started describing things those were in a bag they received, which in turn, I started identifying as mine! I jumped in the next train to Kalyan and collected my bag back, and am still in awe at the whole episode.

Columbia disaster

Movie Moves

I watched Lets Talk, Saathiyaa, Rishtey and Kaante back to back over the last few weeks. Luckily, the trouble-shooter in me rose up to the occasion to evade such an embarrassing situation!

The only excuse at hand is the job switch. Ever since I got into this new office, I was bit tense learning and adjusting to things over here...

Last I blogged was in 2002 and now its 2003! So wishing u all a happy, prosperous, healthy and MindBlogging 2003…

I shifted to a new abode and I like it. The house is full of light and if there is any better name for it than ‘The Lighthouse’…do let me know. Living alone is no fun I tell u and the solitude and isolation will kill u. So I have now decided to look for a fitting roommate. Hehehe….it was all about learning something in life…I wanted to live alone and now I feel it is not that easy.

My first three days went mute and suddenly I thought about my transistor radio, something i bought through net and was yet to try it. I put the batteries and the first voice in my room was born and the experience, literally, did jerk me!

Work at Ashok’s office is quite a new experience. I think, by now I have worked in all kinds of offices. Bwsx was a mix of fun and exigency. Mentorix was a disciplinarian with lot of formalities. Here, work is “koooool yaaaaar”! No binding rules but I feel like performing and I do enjoy the work and atmosphere. Forget those occasional power and telephone failures and thanks to them as well…otherwise I wouldn’t be blogging now. But, Gautam is unable to “take a call”…J And thanks to Syl for reminding me about the existence of my blog. But I think you have spoiled the pedestrian in me by offering lifts in the evenings, Syl. Now I feel like not walking in the mornings also and do go for a rick!

I took some extra time finishing my first feature for Rediff from Ashok’s office, as I found dealing with these showbiz people quite sluggish. But I am glad that it came out the way I wanted.

2003 started on an idle note as I took the liberty to bunk office on New Year Day. My boss didn’t like it and I still feel guilty about it. I spent a quiet night at home on 31st night and mingled with friends on 1st. I disappointed my old roommates by choosing to opt out of the party. 31st nights were something we used to celebrate so wildly and this time I just wanted to change the way I had been doing it.

So it is resolution time and mine is ‘nurturing my patience level’. I am trying my best nowadays to be cool when the train gets stuck in signals, when the movie takes time to start, water takes time to get boiled etc etc…Yeah, don’t frown…Water takes its own time to get boiled sometimes….if you don’t think so….try it out yourself when it is just 3 minutes left to leave for office.

A Week to Remember!

Sorry couldnt update this for a while. But I want to tell lotsa things!

Dec 1:
That was my birthday. Visited a temple and then spent the day with one of my close friends...watched "Makdee" in the morning and went to Bandra in the afternoon. The movie was short but sweet and overall it was a nice experience. Shabana Azmi did well in the role of the witch, but her footage was less. But who stole the show was Shweta Prasad, that cute kiddy girl....with her vivacious performance! A must see for any age group.

Dec 2:
I was about to leave my office for the day when I heard about the Ghatkopar Blast. I couldnt believe that such a thing could happen in a silent and peaceful town like Ghatkopar, a place I know very well and I am very close to for various reasons. Bus No. 416 was an integral part of my life as I used to travel in it while going to my ex-office at Amrut Nagar.

One of the occasions....when a close calamity left me shuddering!

Dec 3
My penultimate day at Mentorix. I am sorry that I couldnt accept their offer as I 'd made up my mind to join Ashok. I am gonna miss all my friends over here. Be in touch..Sandeep, Asha, Andrea..! Went to Dahisar in the evening as part of my house hunt. Nowdays I am looking for a house that is close to Borivli, my proposed workplace.

Dec 4
It is farewell blues. It is always sad for me leaving an office...leaving the pc that was my companion for some time, leaving back my telephone number, leaving my seat....sent a mail to my acquaintances over here at mentorix informing them about my exit. And this would be my last blogging from the Mentorix office.

C yaa guyes soon!!

Are you Onlan?

The vibrancy Intranet Messengers exude in an offline environment

Intranet Messenger is an instant messenger that functions using the intranet resources. Intranet is a privately maintained network of computers connected to each other within a business setup or an organization through Local Area Network (LAN). Intranet Messenger doesn’t require internet. But machines should be connected to the LAN and the particular messenger that you use should be installed in other machines also. Let us profile some popular intranet messengers.

WinPopup comes pre-installed with Windows. But the disadvantages with WinPopup are: You need to manually type-in your contact’s log-in name or computer name to send the message across or you need to know the name of the workgroup if you want to broadcast. Also, You need to keep the icon alive in your taskbar throughout your session.

IP Messenger is user-friendly and effective. Its interface window displays the list of users in the network. The messenger works in the system tray. The additional multicast facility helps you to broadcast the message to the whole network. Trusted Messenger and Active Pager works on the same lines. Trusted Messenger can give a funky touch to your chat, as it has got a variety of pre-defined skins and color/font options. Active Pager has got advanced features such as an answering machine, templates and blacklist.

Network Assistant can work with WinPopup and has got additional features like, channels-based chat, shared whiteboard, file transfers, remote screenshots, activity tracking and more. The shared whiteboard facility brings in a novel concept as you and your friends can draw on this tool, which will help you to share and explain diagrams, graphics etc! Wanna do bit of snooping? The Remote screenshots facility can aid you in viewing screenshots of a remote screen! The Remote process control helps you to view processes on a remote computer and create/terminate the processes.

Other than chatting, Vypress Messenger helps you to send e-mail messages, text documents, pictures and other files to your friends and coworkers as easily as sending plain text messages. Multicast facility for file transfer is also available in Vypress Messenger. Compatible with WinPopup, its AutoRetries allows automatic sending of messages to computers that are not currently available in the local network. Other key features of this chat tool include Auto Answer, Address Book, Mail Check, Message filtering etc.

Express Messaging Server offers extra features like auto-reply, drag and drop file transfers, sending system wide messages, and more. It functions as an integrated management tool to monitor online usage as well as manage user accounts. Then we have Bopup Messenger, which is compatible with most standard programs, like WinPopup and Net Send. It features ignore lists, network groups, quick answers, file transfer, auto-replies, message history etc. Win Messenger is compatible with WinPopup, net send and Linux.

Advantages of intranet over internet in the inter-office communication are:

·	In emergency situations where you need a quick reply, you don’t need to rely on the office e-mail system much.
·	No big issues regarding the connection and speed, with intranet. The messages reach instantly.
·	No need to depend on the e-mail system to send files to your peers. The file transfer facility that is featured in most of the intranet messengers makes offline file transfer possible in quick time.
·	Wide Area Network (WAN) makes intranet messaging possible between two or more LANs in buildings, which stand close to each other or are in the same locality.

If used effectively, Intranet messengers can replace telephones! You can have an in-depth talk with your boss using all the diagrams and texts here. It saves a lot of time as it avails quick responses! A loophole with intranet chat is that, your chat partner should be there at his desk. You send him an urgent message and if the person is away from his desk may delay your purpose. So it would be better to use the ‘Away/Absent’ mode, whenever you are leaving your pc. Also make sure that your messenger is activated when you login in the network

The multicast facility comes handy when the management or any employee wants to convey some urgent message to the whole network. You are in search of the hardware guy of your office and he is not there at his desk! Just broadcast: “XXX please contact YYYY urgently.” Your guy would be near any of the computers in the office and he may get the message! Chances are that you will also get broadcasts like: “If anybody requires Saturday night passes to Fire n’ Ice, contact me immediately.”

So, have fun with Intranet Messengers and do some work too!

Die Another Day

Yeah, its the new Bond movie title and it sounds so imposing and ambiguous! So, does the title imply the superiority of Mr. Bond.... that he can decide his/other's death time? Or does it imply his determination to be successful against all odds.... that makes him telling: "I want to live today"..? I want to be back with some good news.

Leaving these love notes before winding up...

Dreams are Never Real

My dream seemed, so simple and pure,
To find gentle and lasting love,
One that for a lifetime would endure,
Sent from Heaven above.

My prayers were answered when I met you,
So unique our bond of the soul,
A sweet love only known to few,
Being together forever, our goal.

I will love you always, my dearest one,
Who you are is so precious to me,
And my heart you have eternally won,
My soul I gave you so free.

But I guess that dreams are never real,
I have searched for you all my life,
Yet the dream is dying, that's how I feel,
Am I not good enough to be your wife?

What happened to us and the freedom we knew?
My heart is ripped deep 'neath my breast,
Is love only a dream, what did I do?
In my life you are only the best.

You loved me because of who I am,
Yet now, you dislike that the most,
My dream seems now, eternally damned,
And our love must be only a ghost.

by Divya

LOST AND ALONE

Since you have gone, there is no place like home
It seems that I am always lost and alone
Fear and emptiness surround me
And Ebony darkness is all I see

I feel so helpless, with no one to call
No one to catch me whenever I fall
Then I remember I am not alone
He is always beside me, He has given me all

He has blessed me with love
From here and above
He has given to me
Many precious memories

I know he will ease this pain in my heart
He will never give me more than I can stand
And when there is darkness
He will be holding my hand.

by Divya

India survived a scare and managed to beat Windies to square the series. Arun is finally back in Mumbai! First, I met him an year ago when he landed in Mumbai all the way from London with plans of making a movie. But it didn’t work out and he stayed in Mumbai for almost 8 months, working for the recording studio he opened with his friends in Andheri. During his stay here, we had a nice time together. Then he fell out with his partners, and one fine day returned to London. And almost after an year, he is back now. But I couldn’t accept his offer to join him for a movie this weekend because of my shifting plans. I can meet him next week, I hope.

India had a good victory yesterday night and really enjoyed the Live. I trust Rahul Dravid, but Sanjay Bangar was the surprise package of yesterday night! When I saw his name in the line-up before the match, I was wondering about his ‘slogging’ skills. And when the match headed for a nail-biting finish and when Bangar came out to bat, I was expecting a quick retreat from him! But it was heartening to see him coming good in the crunch situation. Now I want to see more such innings from him.

Wow...before winding up...here is a flash! My ex-office pal Rashmi has joined my present office. Myself standing on the verges of a major change in my life, the feelings are excitement and anxiety. My Mom cheers me up telling that my bad phase of two years 've got over this October. I am still wearing that holy lavaliere my Dad gave me to fight all the evil forces those come in my way!

Got deviated from my main topic Changes. Ok, so far i feel i did well in 2002. One of the interesting friends I have made this year is Tanveer who lives up to his surname of Bookwala in a very 'literary' manner. We both share the same birth date, i.e., Dec. 1! Now he has resigned and is planning to don the mantle of ‘first assistant’ to some director. Good luck! My best friend is planning to resign her job in December to embrace Motherhood. Warm wishes to you Jots!

Me, Myself and my Place!!

I ‘d been sharing an accommodation with my friends since a long time and now I need a change. I want a space of my own and by this month end I would be shifting, if everything goes according to plans. I ‘d been searching for a place since the last two months and now I have found out my shelter. The feeling is ‘excitement’ though I know what a headache it’s going to be, I mean arranging the whole thing. I know, to live alone bearing the full rent is gonna be kinda luxury for me, but now I want my privacy and I have lotsa things to do, want to work towards fulfilling my dreams. And very specially, I want to celebrate my b’day in my own house. That’s a promise I had given to two people: my friend and then my best net pal Fatima. I am glad that I am gonna fulfill it.

And of course, a change of place brings in a lot of unpleasant changes too. Now I will have to take care of the kitchen everyday, when I needed to cook only once in a while during my stay with friends. Now the distance between my office and home is getting lengthened. Nobody would be there for assistance if a rat makes appearance at my place. Oh….rats really scare me, man! When the electric fuse goes off-duty, when my music system complaints, when its time to change the gas cylinder…no Suresh or Ajay would be there for any technical support! Also, from now on, I will have to bear the biggest headache named ‘the Landlord’ of my own. It’s more than loosing extra-money, this shifting business, I would say.

But now I wanna turn positive! I have decided to look at only the brighter side of affairs. At my own place, I am gonna get the biggest thing in anybody’s life – freedom! Now, I would be able to watch my favorite channels without any hindrance. Now I can decide what food I should eat, when to put out the lights, when to take bath….lotsa things like that! So I want to sum up, changes are for good, sooner or later.

L I L T Makeover
Hi people.... I have just moved my blog to a new design. I felt this one pleasanter. I wanted to do that since a long time but I was at sea since I couldn’t find any tool to change my blog's design, in blogger. So I just kept a back up of my earlier postings and then deleted my blog. After that, I created LILT anew choosing a new design and pasted all the back up content in it. It was amazing to see some real sincere and wonderful blogs like those of Anita and Nidhi. Really inspiring!

[11/11/2002 8:14:11 PM | Bijoy A.K]

The Cool is in!

I ask a chat friend, 'how is life' and he replies, "cool". When I enquire my sister about her vacation and she sums up it in one word - "Cool". My colleague watches a movie and describes it as a cool one. I have seen some advertisements giving Rahul Dravid, a 'cool dude's image'. I like this word and admire those who are 'cool' and want to be cool myself. But, how many of us in tough real life situations have maintained our composure?

When I called up one of my close friends a few weeks ago, he informed me that he is sitting at home nursing a kind of pulled muscle in his leg. Next call and he tells me about his severe leg ache. By the time I made another call, he had taken a physiotherapist's help and was almost bed ridden. When I met him after a couple of days, he was unable to move and things seem to be getting out of hand. He was shifted to a nursing home where doctors hung weight on his leg and tried their best which only resulted in some impressive hospital bills!

Both financially and mentally, he had been undergoing the trauma of his lifetime. Just the thought that, I am unable to walk and doctors are yet to come up with the right diagnosis are enough to loose one's mind. And what adds to the woes is the fact that his near and dear are far away in Kerala and he has nobody here to look after him, except a few good friends. Anybody would crumble but not this guy! Whenever I visited him, I saw him in his usual self, greeting me with his typical naughty smile, cracking jokes, pulling my leg in which he is always at his very best and entertaining his visitors the maximum.

Last I met him was two days back. The earlier day, he had undergone a back surgery, following the final diagnosis that his slipped disc that disturbs the back nerve is causing him problems. The problematic disc was removed and I expected to see him finally subdued, taking some much needed rest. But I saw him, though lying in bed, in his irrepressible mood! He was surfing chanels in the wall-fit TV and was making it a point to attend all the telephone calls those came in his way. Though his face couldnt hide that weariness, he gave me a broad smile which I will call 'a winner's smile'. The smile of somebody who took on life sooo COOOOOLLY!

He won a game of life, never loosing his cool throughout the struggle.

Now I can call him a Cool Guy and he taught me some lessons of 'being cool in life'.

Well done my friend.....thanX!

[11/8/2002 5:30:49 PM | Bijoy A.K]

Gunpowder, mosquitoes and Sweets

The title may sound awkward! But I was just expressing two major thoughts that caught my fancy this Diwali. Let us better classify them as 'Gunpowder and Mosquitoes' and 'Sweets'.

I felt this Diwali as more cracking and bursting than any I experienced here. It was the smell of gunpowder all around, giving new dimensions to Mumbai's pollution. I heard everybody complaining about it...but somehow I like that smell. It takes me back to my good old days.... makes me really nostalgic! I am glad that the mood to enjoy burning a cracker is still there in me. My friend is not allowed to burn crackers at her house and she want to do it when I take a house of my own.

Yeah, back to Diwali. So amidst a lot of complaints about the smell of gunpowder, I heard somebody actually praising it! According to him, it keeps the mosquitoes away. It keeps human beings also away, but we human beings are such a shameless lot that we have made it a necessity. The next morning I woke up with those scratch marks again and I felt even the mosquitoes have started behaving like us!

Now let us talk about something pleasant and so its Sweets. Just that, I had lots of sweets this Diwali as compared to my other Diwalis in Mumbai. Actually, I never liked sweets that much and I used to avoid it. But this time I discovered that I have started liking it. Is it a good omen.... something that is linked with the upcoming events in my life in this New Year? Oooof...wish me good luck!!!

[11/2/2002 12:37:48 PM | Bijoy A.K]

Happy Diwali...!

I will start with this glittering Diwali occasion. Diwali in Mumbai is something special for me and this is my best season, I wud say! The climate is cool that is gonna embrace the upcoming X'mas in December also and its more than just a relief from the Mumbai heat.

My memories of Diwali in Mumbai begin with that of the year 2000. That time, I had landed myself in a better job after my hitting the Mumbai shore all the way from Kerala in 1999. We had a wonderful party at office and the occasion helped me to realize that Diwali means something special to Mumbaikars! Then the 2001 Diwali was of a dull note for me as most of my friends were away and things were not going smooth for me at work. So I just watched it passing.

Here it is 2002, and it’s different! Life has changed a lot.....new job, new people, new places....and of course new issues! My official outlook mail is overflowing with the Diwali Greetings, with each and every colleague making it a point to wish his co-worker and thus making his presence felt. The changes have made me very energetic and I am ready for a ball! All my pals might have received my diwali greetings by this time, I hope. "Wish u a happy Diwali...wish u Mumbai..a happy diwali"

I hope to get back to you soon, safer...without any Diwali 'scars' or 'burns'..!

[10/31/2002 11:35:34 AM | Bijoy A.K]

The Kick-off

life is like that.....have a good look at it!
